The Euskirchen police present the nationally successful prevention program for young drivers at schools and companies in the Euskirchen district. With its own 90-minute stage program, an action team of police officers, rescue workers, doctors and emergency pastoral workers confronts young people with the consequences of serious traffic accidents.
They describe their own perceptions at the scene of the accident, during the rescue and recovery of injured and dead people and when delivering death notifications. The audience is given an authentic picture of the diverse suffering caused by serious road accidents.
Young drivers as a risk group
The focus of this nationwide prevention program is on so-called "young drivers". Novice drivers aged 17 to 25 are considered a risk group, as they are involved in a disproportionately high number of serious road accidents (18%) compared to their share of the population (8%).
Every accident is based on a breach of the rules
The prevention program is based on the knowledge that no one is helplessly exposed to the risk of a traffic accident. Traffic accidents do not happen, they are caused by people, often by deliberately breaking the rules. The campaign team wants to make the causes and effects as concrete, realistic and emotionally tangible as possible in order to strengthen the willingness to follow the rules, including for fellow drivers.
After the event, participants are offered follow-up and aftercare to deepen and process the topic.
